DVI V VGA

a lot better, then theres hdmi which again is a lot better. vga sucks balls mate.

how is HDMI better than DVI other than the smaller connectors and the ability to carry sound?

HDMI and DVI are, with regards to Pins & signal, identical.

but yeah, DVI/HDMI is much better than VGA/analogue :)

Digital Signal vs Analogue.
More clarity in DVI better for reading font on the screen, old 19" though vga was fine till got new 24" now can really tell the difference.

Was about to make a post regarding dvi vs hdmi. I just got a lovely Samsumg 24" T240 and have hooked it up via DVI. Am well impressed so far but was wondering if HDMI would be even better?

From what I have read, there is no difference in terms of picture quality.

It basically depends on how good the DAC on the graphics card and ADC on the monitor are - two largely varying factors. If you use DVI/HDMI then you cut out this conversion process and get essentially a perfect picture every time.

If you don't notice the difference with your setup and for some reason have to use VGA (e.g. dual monitor setup on a graphics card with just 1 DVI and 1 VGA connector) then fine. Otherwise, you should use DVI/HDMI whereever possible.

To reiterate what Aod said, HDMI 1.0-1.2a and single-link DVI are identical in terms of video. HDMI 1.3+ and dual-link DVI are identical in terms of video. You will see no picture quality increase when using HDMI instead of DVI unless for some reason the DVI port is not HDCP enabled but the HDMI one is.

Alright guys, i got a quick question and im sure a real noob one at that, purchased a new pc set up the other day but im having a prob, the pc seems to be working fine and the monitor, but the monitor came with a dvi cable and when i went to plug it into the back of the antec 900 i noticed there was no dvi slots? can i get some kind of an adaptor because im going to be real disapointed paying out a fair bit of cash and not being able to use my monitor to its full ability. Cheers

Are you looking in the wrong place or looking for the wrong thing? DVI ports look like this:

It is possible (but unlikely) that that graphics card only has HDMI ports but from a quick Google search, it looks like it has dual DVI ports.

DVI will carry less noise to teh monitor than VGA, you wont notice any Clocking noise.

Auto detects your resolution too :)
Deffo go DVI. HDMI isnt any better, unless ur passing sound through aswell.

I've currently got in use two samsung monitors on different PCs, one with a VGA input only, and the other monitor has a choice of DVI and VGA.

and I can't tell any difference in quality what so ever between the two, even if I use photoshop. If anything the DVI monitor is more of a pain to calibrate to set the ICC profile and get a good gamma colour reference.

PS. I also agree with the above post from "wellibob"

I think what i done is mixed up the dvi cable with the d-sub cable because i managed to put the white headed lead in fine its just i got no place to fit the blue headed cable. does that sound about right? think i need to go back to school :o lol
