DVI vs HDMI

Is there any difference for general use between using the DVI cable that comes with the monitor or using a DVI to HDMI cable?
Is HDMI superior, or is the only different being able to watch HDCP enebled stuff?

DVI and HDMI are identical in terms of picture/electrical signals. HDMI adds HDCP support and sound to the cable.

The only difference is hdmi can carry sound and dvi doesnt they both support hdcp and in terms of picture quality they are both equal.

Not quite - DVI can support HDCP too, but you need to check the specification. HDMI almost always supports HDCP but Wikipedia seems to suggest that a few early HDMI ports don't.
