Hi guys,
Need help with dvla. Had a fit 6 7 years ago, now i want my hgv class 1 back so send all forms
license to dvla in december 2016. Still dont have it back. Each month i call i same story that they backloged etc. What can i do to hurry it up. It s ridiculously long time to sort it out.
Thx

Can't imagine there's much you can do, even simple things like getting a log book back are taking nearly the full 6 weeks to get turned around atm.

I notified them about about my car I'm no longer the owner and they got back to me with an acknowledgment in less than a week. Letter too. I notified them via their website maybe its paper submissions they have a backlog with?

Are you speaking to the medical department? I'm currently ongoing an application to get my licence back after a serious injury and the initial experiences are not great.

You could try writing to Chris Grayling - he's still Secretary of State for Transport - but he is, of course, rather occupied. :) Oliver Morely is the current head of the DVLA so writing to him might be a better bet. Be polite in your letter and detail everything. But you may have to wait until after the election. Then write to your new MP. Waiting six months is a nonsense.

Or suck it up and accept that these places have backlogs and the more you chase them the worse it gets.

Case in point, the land registry also have a six month backlog but because of so many people chasing them and asking them to expedite applications without any good reason, even expedited applications are now taking a month instead of a week

Was that via the online process though? I had my online plate retention V5 back within about 3 days, I'm expecting the V5 for the new car that was sent to DVLA via post to take longer though :(

My personal experience in the last 2 month:

Removed PP from old car, new log book took 4 days to arrive, bought new car at start of April didn't get log book through until first week of May, put PP on new vehicle replacement came within 3 days, sent that log book back in as my surname is spelt incorrect and I'm guessing it'll take 4 - 5 weeks to come back.

Bought a car on the 21st of April, still haven't received my V5C.

Have received the paperwork and a tax refund for the car i part exchanged the same day, unless the dealer took some time sending off the V5C/2 there seems to be a backlog on mine.

if i don't have it by the end of the week i'll give it a chase.

Vehicles and People are dealt with by different parts of the DVLA though so comparing how long it takes for a V5 vs a medical issue isn't of much use. I'm quite lucky in that I live pretty close to the DVLA so just walk anything in there and its dealt with almost instantly.

my gf bought one too around the same time, took dealer 2 weeks to contact us after driving away to ask for our postcode because they somehow failed to note it down! monkeys.

it was supposed to be sent out on 10th but we're still waiting.

The fella I dealt with was a bit of tosspot, didn't seem to have a clue or care about what was happening. Think he said he was on holiday the next week, the day being Friday so he really didn't care. Made some weird excuses about the spare key being in the finance offices safe and everyone had gone for the day, this being around 1pm, so he couldn't get it. He wandered off for a bit finally said he got in but there was no spare key so we asked him to order one in. Still hasnt turned up in the showroom in 4 weeks even though they said it would take a few days.

I think it's just expected to have some sort of nonsense when buying a car.

My v5c did turn up Friday though, so good thing that's sorted.

Hope yours gets sorted soon enough.

Got replacement v5 back after a week with correct details, must be certain departments that are backlogged.

I sent off the trader section for my old car on Monday and the new keeper section for the new car on Tuesday, we'll see how long it takes for me! :D

The DVLA do seem a bit random in my past experiences.
