Have just received a letter to say my license is due for renewal and looking on the dvla site it says you can now take your own photos but must meet a requirement.

Has anyone taken there own photo and DVLA have approved? ... I'm far from a photographer and have a basic camera/knowledge so not 100% ... any tips?

thought it would be best posted in motors rather than gd.

Oh, nice. I'll be doing that when mine's up for renewal then! :)

What if your passport photo is already 5 years old though? Do you get less time on your renewal? You could end up with a 5 year old photo on a new licence, couldn't you?

thanks guys, my passport expired a bit ago otherwise would have used this.

My local post office don't do the license renewal and no photo machines there.

Will do what slickrick & snapdragon recommend.

OK have just got my original licence back again due to the post office writing the incorrect amount on the postal check.

Question is my licence expired on the 13 Feb (although passed in August 2006) does this mean I can not drive? I think I know the answer but thought I would double check.

You still have a license, but if stopped and they check the photo they may well fine you

I accidentally drove around for about a year and a half with an out of date photo.

thanks, think I got mixed up with the acctual expiry date of the licence and photo expiry date.

I don't have the licence to produce as has been posted back to the DVLA.

Why can't the DVLA let you pre pay online for renewing your licence, would be much easier.

anyway thanks for the help mate.

wilko have a photo cubicle in there stores.

It lets you align your face and head or whatever with the correct margins on the photo.

plus you can keep the other 3 photos.
