as the DVLA can't or won't give me a straight answer is there anything which is like a ruling as to how long a suspension and what needs to be done etc. my reasoning is this:

i've been unfortunate enough to suffer a sub-arachnoid haemorhage but from searching the net i think its about a years suspension but what happens then? is it a retest? is it an assessment? i have no idea and the dvla won't shed any light on it.

when does the suspension start from? the accident date? discharge date? date i sent the license back?

it is a bit of a large field to cover but does anyone know of a site or link that could shad some light?

Wow thats a tuff one
all i can sugest is poping over to the NABD forums and asking there
there's a few over there who are clued up on all forms of driving law
good luck with it

My mum had her licence revoked after she suffered an epileptic fit out the blue. It was a 1 years suspension from when she spoke to the DVLA IIRC. When that 1 year was over she had to get a report of the doctor or something, send it to the DVLA, then her licence was re-issued. She didn't have to do a retest or anything.

When my Dad suffered 5 mini-strokes, the DVLA suspended his licence. After a rather drawn out process of trying to prove he was fit to drive again, unfortunately the exact details of which I can't recall, he was given his licence back. No retest. Hope this helps a little.

cheers for that. i assume it to be the same conditions as applied to epilepsy as if i have a fit before the year is up my license is revoked. how long did she have to wait?

it does so thanks to you and all others who have replied. at least i know what to question or expect. :)

Yeah my mate had her license suspended after an epilepsy attack. Suspended for 1 year and as said doctors note to say that she handn't suffered any attacks in 12 months and she got it back.

worth asking your doctor as well next time you go. they should know the ins and outs. It should be a common question.

Also email dvla. You usually get a decent reply from them. but it does take a few days.
