DX10 ATI vs NVidia gaming benchmarks

The benchmarks just show hell of a lot of work needs to be done on both sides. I still find it really bizarre that a fantastic card 8800/2900 can suffer so badly in some games and only produce maybe 5fps or so under certain circumstances. What happened to all the raw power, and why does it only happen in certain games? What routines are being altered, and are drivers purely running on 'profiles' now and NEED to identify the games being played?

I was under the impression that NVIDIA's DX10 driver was pretty much complete given that it's had a year to mature..

In the 8800gts corner, take a look at the Company of Heroes bench in the THG review. That is not a mature driver for 'that' game. My question is what's causing a problem like that? Surely it's not that much different architecture to the other 8x00 series cards that it's results plunge that much.

I think there are issues on both sides. I would also expect driver tweaking to help out pretty much every games performance when GPU limited. I don't get why particular games suffer badly.

Not so much the flaming as that can be a bit silly at times but the debates and lesser arguments are good I think:)
