DX10 cards

Your x1900 XT has got ages left yet, R600 is due when Vista comes, Jan/Feb, G80 not sure, but with an x1900 XT you can easily see em out. :)

Get it clocked to XTX speeds, and your only 1-2 frames slower than an x1950, x1950 has just come out, will easily last year or so, so your talking next Sept, by which time R600/G80 will be long gone, ive got an x1800 here nigh on a year old, still throwing everything around fine, ive seen out x1900, and im now passing x1950, now if the x1950 can't even manage to see out 4x months, then summits wrong there. :)

what difference would be noticeable over a 1900xt?
No one can answer that really, as already said an X1900 XT has plenty of life in it yet, maybe even a couple years before DX10 is making waves.

Remember how long DX9 took to finally take off, so expect something similar i reckon.

DX10 will be SM3.0 all over again. Tons of cards will be pushed out with tons of DX10 hype, encouraging every Tom, Dick and Harry to spend his hard-earned on one, some versions of the card won't even be able to run DX10 fast enough to make it worthwhile but people will buy them anyway, and it will take a good year or two until games in general actually start using it.

Sorry if that was a bit of a run-on sentence or maybe didn't make sense, I've not slept much in four days. :o

Yeah DX10 games aint going to flood out, and they will run in DX9 anyway, look at how good Crysis looks on DX9, i can't see DX10 making that look totally differant, and how many DX10 games do you think we'll see by next Sept. i bet it won't be many, yet we'll have seen a load of new faster DX10 cards come and gone by then. :)

Quoted for truth!

Yep fully agree, ive always said its gona be like SM3.0, everyone was saying dont buy the faster x800 XT PE's, get the 6800 Ultra as they have SM3.0, i really couldnt for the life of me see why everyone would rather get the slower card soley for such a pointless feature that wasn't getting used, i said at the time, why theres nowt using it, and by the time there is your 6 series wont run em as it will be well old hat, or if it does run em it'll run em low details etc... that was how long ago now, exactly, and today theres still bugger all hardly using it, and SM4.0 is coming on DX10 cards so SM3.0 is dead. :)

Now ive said that again i'll probably get the same flaming as i got when i said it then. :(

No, what i meant was that DX10 will only work with Vista and not on XP.

Another way to force us to upgrade to this DRM laden monster perhaps?

Well the first generation of DX10 cards will be perfect for me, been holding my ground on a 6800GT (AGP) until something revolutionary came out for PCI-E (Conroe!).

Not everyone upgrades every generation ;)

Agreed, those with low end cards will benefit from the first lot of DX10 cards, anyone with a high end card now, tis a waste of money, as its not worth it. :)

My x1800 XT's still going strong nigh on a year after i bought it, ive passed x1900, and now passing x1950, so as i said if cards like the x1950 can't even see out the first card after it in 4 months, well thats utter crap. :D

I was gonna hold out for r600 (currently have x800) but your looking at paying premium price for something largely unsupported. I'm also highly skeptical about Vista - prob wait till serv. pack is released before taking the plunge

The recent drop in x1900 prices forced me to do the sensible thing and go for ice-q 1900xt . Got it at 'this week only' price here :)

Roll on oblivion :D

Can someone clear this up for me please?

Everyone is on about the DX10 cards but surely unless you have Vista, (no thank you) you are not going to get the best out of these cards and there probably will not be many, if any, DX10 games for a while, and then they will presumably only work properly under Vista, so whats the point?

Surely a current or one of the new, soon to be released high spec cards will be just as good under XP.

Essentially correct!

1) You need BOTH Vista AND a DX10 card to play a DX10 game in DX10 mode.

2) DX10 games will play in DX9 mode on XP with either a DX10 or DX9 card

3) DX10 games will play in a version of DX9 on Vista if you DONT have a DX10 capable card.

The thing to remember with the soon to be released DX10 cards, is that they should also be the fastest DX9 cards as well. So if you want top performance but arent bothered about DX10, then you may still end up buying a DX10 capable card.
