Just came to me that although you may own a DX10 card running Windows XP you are limited to DX9.0c only and only when Vista appears will you be doing the DX10 thang. Hence Vistas current RC2 credentials beg the question of the release date for this underperforming (current RC2 gaming benchmarks anyways) behemoth of a OS (its huge btw with 512 MB RAM used when having just booted) and the release of proper DX10 vista drivers and all of the debugging that DX10 will require.

Is the G80 and R600 going to be worth buying for at lease 3 to 6 months due to DX10 games also being delayed such as Crysis (or so I hear)?

The G80 is not about DX 10 for gamers who are interested in getting one.

Its the fastest card out there now.Thats it.Just like any other release it just happens to have DX 10 features.

There is nothing new about the price tag either.

7900 GTX where £450 on release,

You've opened the can of worms now mate, you're going to get a right rollocking for even asking.

Expect this thread to turn into five pages of people shouting at eachother. One group saying that early adopters are idiots and the other saying that people who don't buy in are just jealous/broke/idiots/whatever.

IMO the graphics forum should be shut down until November 8th before someone bursts a blood vessel.

Its exactly what forums are for m8, if you dont like it dont log in,

IMO G80 is a pretty insignificat DX10 wise, By the time the first dx10 game hits the shelf the second gen G80 wont be far off.

As far as vista performance goes, Wait for proper drivers before believing any banchmarks, Nvidia are at fault here not MS, and as for the memory comment, unused ram is wasted ram ;)

Forums are for making people buy stuff (or not) just because of your point of view, then trashing a thread with five pages of arguing? Actually, I think you're right. It must be really, since that's all that has happened around here since more information about the 8800GTX became public.

Forums are for helping people and sharing information and giving an opinion on topics of discussion. not as far as i am aware is there a "add to basket" button anywhere around here.

soz for being forced to go off topic,

It's going to happen sooner or later if stress levels get any higher around here.

Aren't we due for "FREE HOLIDAYS: LAST WARNING THREAD #230597237" right about now? Not had one in a while.

Yeah apparently though all is well and if we want things to calm down we should apparently just log out and not come back, so says gizmoy2k.

Fuuny you should mention that, as ive been wondering about that today, it is due again. :D

I think it will come out now as well as its just getting ridiculous in here now, you can't mention a DX9 card without getting them steaming in with their 'do not buy DX9', new gen only crap. :D

The G80 is for, at the time of writing, People who want the fastest single card NOW - not in a few months, People where money seems to be no object:) - nothing wrong with those who want this card. However, how many people who ARE buying this card, would do so if it wasn' DX10 compatable? did the X10 swing it for would be buyers?.

-Ant, on a (soon to be) old gen card - the good ol' X1900XT-X ;)

If the converstion is too much for some here and hits them where it hurts, try www.atifanboys.com , I hear its bit dull overby just now and there wont be worth much talking about for quite a while ;)
What exactly does this thread have to do with ATI?

It's about wether or not G80 is worth buying yet, last time I checked the title.

First you tell people who don't like the stress and arguments flowing into every thread to log out, and now you're bringing up ATI in a thread about G80 and Windows Vista? Someone's got an agenda.

Thats a good point, as i bet if it didnt have DX10, then we would not get this constant barrage of 'do not buy DX9 cards anymore' etc... crap. ;)

Anyone who wants SLI/XFI perfromance for less and with a single card :D

Not sure of the price of this card, but will this card cost less than two Xt1900XT in Xfire (a little over £400 -[£258/£170]) -and will it perform better?

I see this card as a "starting point" for the next gen, and like BETA sorta;)

very similar in price... with similar performance... but G80 has HDCP and full DX10 support so maybe worth getting G80 in that position...

Sounds not bad actually, for people (like me)
who have single slot Pci-express. So: £70-100 saved on new MOBO, £100ish? on PSU (for Crossfire - assuming the G80 doesn't draw more power than Xfire), can end up being cost effective - if you look at it this way, i spose :)

Upgrading my monitor in the new year (from Viewsonic VX912 19" - to a 22ish size).
