So Ive been considering upgrading and salivating over the latest 8800 cards (but not their prices) only to read that DX10 will only be available in Vista!!

Apparently there maybe a Direct 9.0L which is an advanced version of DX9 but this will be available on lower versions of Vista and not XP.

So this means I need to add at least another 130 quid to me build price and hang on for the release of Vista (very soon I know), then wait some more for a game which will use DX10 and the full power of the 8800's.

Has anyone heard of good old microsoft releasing an update to directx9 for XP which would make use of an 8800GTS/GTX GPU? As I understand it directx9 still has lots of improvements available ?!?!?

Jeez I had enough waiting for HD. Whats with all this waiting for crying out loud. Gimme Gimme :D

I have to admit buying, the ATI HIS 1900 is begining to look a lot better as a card for now tbh rather than havin to payout over the odds for a card which will drop in price and have to do an new install of OS!! I have so much installed that knowin my luck the ruddy upgrade will mean it runs like a dog.

8800s are the fastest DX9 cards out there, so without looking at DX10 they are great buys. Remeber nothing uses DX10 at the moment, and nothing in the near future (next 12 months) will have any great improvements from DX9 - DX10.

Also DX9.0L is the vista version of DX9, as far as I know it has no extra features and is simply a re-write of DX9 for Vista (which cannot run any previous DX due to the code rewrite).

I dont see the point in waiting, i recently built a system, the 8800 was one of the parts i bought and im amazed and very very pleased with it, none of this waiting around rubbish for vista and DX10. The way i see it, buy the upgrade system = you get good performance with games now and you will later with DX10 and vista to - win win situation
