Do you need the x64 version off vista to run DX10?

^^ Correct.

But remember that there are currently no DX10 games on the market and from what I can remember, MS have a lot of DX libraries not currently in the Vista release, which will be released when DX10 has matured.

I think burnsy meant there are no exclusively DX10 games. So people like me who can't afford the GDP of a small country [to buy a DX10 card and Vista] don't miss out.

How did you work that out? Plus, it's not all about visual impact, performance will be increased by quite a lot.

Vista at around £60 and an 8600 based graphics card for around the £100 price.
Sure it isn't going to give you 8800 performance - but £160 isn't really that much.
