DX10

will probably contain unified shaders like the Ati chip in the Xbox360 as opposed to the vertex and pixel shaders seperate that we have now
 
So I take it DX10 is going to be the dogs nutts :D how much are people estimating here with price and dates?
 
The cards we have now will be around for a good while yet, there wont be a flood of DX10 games coming out when the G80/R600 hit, only one i know of is the new FarCry, so i wouldn't go rushing out for a DX10 card just to play 1x game, there will be a good few generations of cards been and gone before theres even a handfull of DX10 games as cards come out every few months, be best of waiting till theres enough DX10 games out there before going for a DX10 card, by which time the G80/R600 will be old hat.

Look at the x1900's, they aint even got their shader games yet, and the G80 is already around the corner.

the new isue of Edge has a cracking interview with the Crysis team who discuss DX10 goodness, and it certainly sounds the muts ! adds quite a performance increase over DX9! (but they do say Crysis runs very well on the current top machines). Mentions a new DX9 update called DX9L i think it was......................looks and sounds an amazing game !!!
 
The unified thing (apparently) has to be at least software. Apparently nvidia are going the software route (cheaper / less complex) where as ati are going hardware (has to be done eventially anywho).
I dont expect the cost of cards to go up tbh.
 
I think we need step back ,you must rember not everyone has bleeding edge pcs so i think there will be updates for current cards to play dx10 games but you will not get all the features.if this not the case there will be some very unhappy users and it would decimate the sales of midrange cards and cpus and it would kill of the overclocking sector because your by midrange stuff would not even play it at the start .

Maybe I'll buy a 360 instead of a DX10 card :D Untill the price drops down of course what are the features of DX10 over 9?
