I have a 8800gts 320 and am wondering if I should be using DirectX 9 or D10?

Would there be any differences and could I still play old games with D10?

Currently running DX9

Thanks

Dont quite understand what you mean, for now (maybe always) for DX10 games to run you will need vista.

and no you cant play old games in DX10 mode, they will be in DX9 mode, depends what game it is and if it has a DX10 patch. Games that have already been made so far and are patched to DX10 have little if no performance increase if i remember right, but they do add some graphical effects.

Games that will be built from the ground up for DX10 will be a lot more difference from games patched to DX10.

OMG i did'nt know that you cant play DX9 games if youre using Vista (DX10).

So to play both games illl have to keep dual booting, install DX9 games on XP and DX10 games on Vista?

Oh well.

OK, after your edit, i feel better.

So if i go Vista with DX10 and i play a DX9 game it will be fine, I wont after alter anything?

Like the O/S and card will automaticly detect its a DX9 game and switch to DX9 mode.

it will play like it normally does, according to benchmarks when playing a DX9 game on vista it actually drops performance a bit. Nothing to worry about really, not if you have a good card anyway.

Vista uses DirectX 10 BUT is backwards compatible with DirectX 9 (games, etc). XP doesn't support DX10, yet :)

Think DX10 games will also come the same way, i.e. can run in a DX9/XP/GFX system

How is Vista doing with games at the moment. I did install but uninstalled after a few problems. Might try going back now. Few months have passed.

Not that I fancy reinstalling all my games and drivers again though.

i think it will support it eventually. the alky project is apperently making 'progress'.

By the time its probally finshed every body will be on vista with sp1 or even 2. I dont see how change to a new OS has to be a big problem.
