Hello there! I thought I'd write something on my initial experience and opinions on my recent chair purchase.

Recently, after my old pc chair started to fall apart, I decided to give one of these gaming chairs a go. I've been browsing though chairs for a while and noticed that the DXRacers are quite well reviewed. In the end I plumped for one of these:

It arrived this afternoon, and to be honest, I was a bit worried when I first opened the box. It looks like the side plates that connect the seat to the back rest had come out of their protective covers, and made quite a dent on the inside of the box. I'm not sure if this is common with the way these chairs are packaged but luckily they didn't pierce all the way through. The chair was pretty secure in the box though so I can't imagine it moved around too much during transit, which is probably a blessing. Image in spoiler below:

Although I am a relative newbie to this, the assembly went quite smoothly. The allen key provided in the box is the only tool you need. It took much longer than it should have due to me being overly cautious trying not to bend or break anything. To be fair I found the assembly guide to be pretty decent, but just to be sure that I hadn't missed anything, I watched a few videos on YouTube. The only thing the instructions don't say is that the screws that connect the back rest to the seat come pre-inserted in the back rest, so you have to remove them before doing Step 1 on the left side here:

A word of advice, if you are going to be assembling your chair solo like I did, I would recommend using an elevated surface like a table, or in my case a bed, to do the final bit of connecting the main chair to the base. If you do this, you can then lay the chair flat and easily slide the base into place, instead of having the base flat on the floor and trying to slowly lower the main part of chair (which once assembled is a bit heavy) onto the base. Just something I found that helped me. Anyway, a short while later and voilà:

The downsides of the chair, which are very minor from my point of view, start with the armrests. When I was reading up on these gaming chairs, one running theme I noticed from reviews was that the armrests can be a bit wobbly, and to an extent the same is the case with mine. It is a very slight play from left to right though, not enough to really bother me at all. On the flipside they are height adjustable and have a nice smooth surface unlike some chairs I've used in the past. Another downside, and I'm getting very nitpicky now, is that for a chair that is branded as 'Racing Series', it would have been nice to maybe include lockable castors for those who play racing games. I realise that many racers have a 'pod' setup or just use the sofa, but from a marketing perspective, lockable castors could have made this the go-to chair for people who like to race occasionally but don't have the room for a full setup. I suppose this is more of a missed opportunity than a downside, since you could probably find lockable ones online, but it's probably worth mentioning incase someone buys this chair expecting this to be a feature. Finally, I should probably reiterate the packaging issue which I mentioned at the start of this post. The inside of the box took a bit of a poking from the steel plates and I was relieved that they hadn't bent during transit.

If the above doesn't bother you, then have no fear, because this is a bloody good chair. Comfortable, adjustable and, so far, rock solid. Even the lumbar and head support cushions, which I have never used before, are very handy and give you a few more options with your sitting position. I am around 6'1" and I fit in this like a glove. As for longevity, well, we'll wait and see. From what I've read, DXRacer chairs have a pretty good reputation in terms of build quality, so fingers crossed that this is the same. So far I am very happy with my purchase, and I'm hoping this lasts me a good few years.

Cheers for reading, and apologies for the less than ideal cameraphone pictures!
