Dying Light 2 PC Tech Review

No, I was explaining the limitations, because people get their opinion from DF and don't think for themselves. In fact it's apparently too much to ask to even be aware of how light bounces in the actual world and then compare & contrast with how it appears in a game for a technique that purports to be accurate to reality (which ofc it can't be, not with a single bounce). So they see RT and think they found the holy grail not understand what pros & cons are, especially when RT has to be knee-capped for the game to even run, but alas. Very few people end up exercising their grey matter.

Now, let's see if this new site works...

Shame you hadn't put some of that 'grey matter' to use before posting your earlier example. There is nothing more frustrating than having to explain a scene to the plebs.

Who is saying the current implementation is the holy grail? As far as I can see, people know it's still limited, they are just happy with the huge improvement in image quality in certain scenarios.

It's not gamebreaking if you can't use it, but it's going to lead to a lot more immersion in certain parts of the game if you can.

This.

People keep saying things like this gen isn't ready for RT, RT still a long way to go etc. etc. but the results from things like control, cp 2077, metro and now this, speaks for itself, RT is "usable" (for certain users) and whilst "limited" in the grand scheme of things... it still offers a pretty big improvement.

I see this thread is probably going to go the way of the cyberpunk ones.

Looks it :p

I would say this is a far superior version/show of RT to CP now though, at least where lighting, shadows etc. are concerned.

Here is full pic size without any compression from converting to gifs etc.

I will say though, this game could definitely do with an extra light bounce or 2.... at times it is extremely dark, however, I haven't got my flashlight yet!!!

Although the RT is nicer in that shot, I personally am unsure if it's worth the 50% less FPS you're getting there.

Afterburner is not working for me, but even with this old 3770k it's very smooth with everything maxed and DLSS Quality at 1440p. I'm very surprised.

All ray tracing isn't made equal (OG RT vs EE):

But Cyberpunk is still KING! ;) :p

I think DL2 bumps CP2077 off the top spot.

MEE only had RTGI. Although it looked vastly superior than the original it was held back by its target audience, consoles. Can't complain too much as we got it as a free ugrade on PC.

Areas looking too dark aren't actually really that much of an issue when you see how the area is in terms of light sources and their location etc. And given some areas you are in places where there is zero light other than small things, you kind of need to use a flashlight regardless so it is rather "realistic":

Haven't been able to find DF bus location yet :p All in all, would definitely like an extra light bounce or 2 but it's not really that big of an issue and would only kill fps more.

People have forgotten how PhysX went. Make sure you remove as many of the normal physics effects, then add all the normal ones and PhysX ones, when you switch on PhysX. I still remember looking at Cyberpunk 2077 and how its non-RTX water looked terrible compared to other games, but looked much better with RTX on.

But people always look at relative effects, but don't look elsewhere to ascertain whether some of the effects are actually that special.

Hence I agree with Poneros in that regard - its not like companies want us to shell out on new GPUs do they? ;)

Don't disagree there. RDR 2, alien isolation amongst a couple other games still have incredible lighting, reflections etc. but the problem is, the developers spend ages getting them to look that good and still the results wouldn't be as good as what can be achieved with RT, hence why so many developers are adding RT where they can, it saves a lot of effort, time, which in return saves money and means they can focus on other things.
