Hi all,

Got a server which stays on for about 20 mins before turning off. Its a Dell Poweredge 2800 which has a SCSI hard drive running 2k server with SQL server. The power supply has a orange light on it when it falls over.

Whats the best way forward? try to find a new PSU or to get a scsi card and put the hard drive in another server which doesnt have SCSI and copy the data across?

Thanks in advance.

There was nothing in there other than "The previous shutdown was unexpected" no blue screens either. Just clicks off :(

Install Dell Openmanage Server Administrator on said server and check the system event logs in there to see if there is a problem with the PSU.

There's also an full diagnostics application which you can install from the same dvd which OMSA is located.

Can you force the power off by stressing the box? Is it heat related? If the box remains idle for some time does it not power off?

If it's got a DRAC card you might be able to get something useful from that without installing Openmanage

Check the temps in bios and on speedfan. Try testing the voltages with a multi-meter but read up carefully on this.
