Dynamic IP to Static IP - Virgin BB

I know there have been threads on Dynamic IP to static IP conversion, but my problem seems unique to those threads that I can find on here.

We have at work, Pc Anywhere. I have recently found out that our ISP at the business is Virgin broadband. Not sure which package, but knowing my workplace most likely to be very basic. However, it seems to me that it's using a dynamic IP.

DHCP is turned off, so that several computers on the LAN network have their own assigned IP.

Obviously PC Anywhere can be used with a dynamic IP - providing the user can type the IP address into the settings in PC Anywhere, but that seems to be extra hassel as the user (who is a retard when it comes to computing) will need to remote login to the router to view the IP address then input it into PC Anywhere.

So
1) How to convert a ISP assigned dynamic IP address to a static IP address. Prefebly free of charge.

2) Should we stick to using a dynamic IP, is ther anyway to view the IP address from an external location other than to remote login to the router? think the 3com router needs the actualy Ip address followed by ;80 or something to actually get into that, and because it's dynamic...that may pose a problem.

Hope people understand and can advise. Thanks

If the router at work will support it http://www.dyndns.com/ is your answer. Instead of putting the ip in pc anywhere it should be able to take the blablaetcetc.dyndns.com address and get the actual ip of the router, providing the 3com will do it.

One other thing to consider is that if pc anywhere is attempting to connect to a computer behind the router you will have to forward ports to get it to work.

I can port forward as I do that on my home router and that's the easy part. Just need to sort out this damn dynamic IP business, but thanks for your help :)

Not sure on the rest of your question, but have you considered www.logmein.com instead of PC Anywhere? it doesnt care what the IP is and allows you to access the machines from anywhere in the world.

As dovery said just use www.dyndns.org or a similar service to set up a hostname to use then you don't have to worry about the IP changing.

Then you have to make sure your router can auto update dyndns (mine does this) or you can do it manually on their website or have a bit of software on the PC to update the hostname if the IP changes.
