Currently I have a single core amd 64 4000+ with 2 GB of crucial ram and an X1950 card.All running on stock.I am thinking about going dual core and want to know if there would be a considerable performance increase over the single core using a system with the E2XXX series and a decent mobo.System would be mainly used for gaming.
The idea is to build a budget system that hopefully will last a while,but with a half decent upgrade path!

Thanks for the input guys! Can you spec me a motherboard and ram as well? I am seriously out of the loop with this dual core stuff!

This one looks pretty good,with an upgrade path from dual core to quad in the future:
