E books ???

Hi all not sure if this is in the right section but couldn't think of a specific one other then this. Have a wife that is getting into e books at the minute and i am having to print them out for her to read. Looked at proper e book reader things and cannot afford £240 so wondered if there was something else that i could get that would allow her to read them. All it really needs is a decent enough sized screen something above 8" or so and preferably cheap. Any help appreciated as any married man will know what a pain a missus can be about HER wants :D.
 
if you dont have one already how about a cheap laptop. has other uses except reading ebooks so makes it much more practical. can get a reasonable one for about £50 on the bay
 
Yeah i talked to her about that and she doesn't like the idea as she wants something smaller i was thinking about those tablett pc things that are about the size of a large piece of paper and saw some of them going cheap as well but don't know if they display text and pdf files very well or how practical they are for that. Thanks for the idea i would have thought it was the best thing but as normal i was wrong :).
