Over there
Right im at the end of my tether now.

I am looking for an e-mail client for both Windows and Mac that allows me to specify that i want to store my e-mails on another computer so that I can access them from both my Mac, and my Windows, and see all my e-mails that I have.

The computers in question :-
Windows 2000 Server - where I want to store the emails
MacBook Pro - Need a client to access emails stored on Server
Windows XP - Need a client to access emails stored on the Server.

Obviously I am going to need the same client on both the Mac and XP machines. That is where I am struggling big time. I have tried Entourage and Outlook, Outlook lets you do it , i have done it for years that way, but Entourage for Mac has no such option.

Thunderbird - couldnt get that to work at all even tho there is some options for email storage in the options, but that would not work.

So basically im at the end of the line for ideas. I really need this sorting so I can access my e-mails using a proper email client on my Mac.

I access my email account using POP3. All i need is the ability to store any emails coming through the same account on my server and be able to access them from both Mac and Windows using a client.! PLEASE HELP!!

Do you have exchange on your 2000 server? I would have thought you could set it up to collect the email via POP3, and then connect from your Mac/PC to it using IMAP - that way, the email (and associated folders) are stored on the server, but is acessible from either of the clients, regardless of what software is used.

Hope that makes sense!

LOL No. Just use it to share my connection for my computers. Use the NAT Routing to share (used MSProxy Server 2 but cant now as no Mac client for it).

surprised you couldn't get thunderbird to do it. i've used it in Windows, Linux and Mac with the same mail store without issue.

Just copy your profile directory to a share on the server with you windows machine and then use profile manager to create a new profile on the mac and tell it where the mail files are.

Woot! Solved it finally. Figured out Thunderbird!.

Just gotta wait for a universal client now - Tbird running under Rosetta atm is a bit sluggish. Least ive got my emails :D

Might be to late now but you could install centos 3.7 / 4 and use squid for proxying, iptables for your firewall and scalix for mail which is free for the CE version, suports imap, or web interface for all mail functions.
