What do you use?

I used Thunderbird then switched to Outlook - now back on Thunderbird.

Tempted to go back though :p

I've been using Thunderbird for personal emails for about 3 yearsa now, used Outlook before. I use Outlook 2007 at work though and also temted to go back. Did you manage to inport your emails back into outlook from Thunderbird?

Thunderbird Portable, I'm not tied to a computer that way either! They even do Enigmail Portable now too.

My IMAP provider also has my address book over LDAP, so really any lcoation is good.

The webmail screen is pretty good, but I much prefer using a real client.

True but if you forget your USB pen you're still screwed :)

What's better about the client interface?

I'm intrigued because i used to feel the same as most people here, but after a little grace period with Gmail, and getting to use it properly, its so very very powerful search label and filter options vastly sway me. As well as the ease of use signing on anywhere i please. Also if you really like you can grab it over IMAP (i do with my phone to be fair as its the only sensible way) which is just another plus! :D

I use Windows Live Mail for Hotmail and Imap and Outlook 2007 for Exchange. I was using Outlook for Hotmail but as I have a few folders and fair few emails it tends to slow Outlook down and crash it.

To be fair, I don't use Gmail (don't like the privacy issue!) and I've heard that the webmail interfacewith them is brilliant.

My experience with Hotmail was marred by lack of autocomplete address fields, you couldn't tab, formatting was easier using a client, and of course it was much slower over a web connection.

I used TB from version 0.7b to collect mail from 3 accounts and read rss but I've now moved to gmail (and greader). I had a similar experience to LeperousDust, took a few weeks to work out how best to use labels, filters, archive etc. but now I'm hooked. I'm using a couple of the Labs extras to make better use to screen space and the Better GMail 2 extension for firefox to make it look prettier ;) https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6076

Next job is to make use of the 7gb storage and IMAP to move all my old mails from TB to gmail.
