Hello,
I guess that before I write about this that it is going to be a long topic so before you try and help please read the message in detail so you understand and yes I am pretty angry at the moment due to the way I have been dealt with by AOL CS.

Right, Over the past 2 and a half weeks I ahve been getting an issue when trying to access my AOL email using the Thunderbird email client I ahev been using for years and years. Everytime I try to access my inbox, I get the message below:

227 (1032) That mail is not currently available.

I press the "OK" button and get this one:

The current command did not succeed. The mail server responded:UID FETCH completed.

When I press "OK" in that box It shows my messages and all seems ok. As soon as I click to fetch new messages or to refresh my inbox the errors pop up again. I ahve aited a while now to see if the issue resolved itself whcih it did not. Which is why I contacted AOL CS just now. I spoke to a guy who was next to useless and after 35 minutes speaking to him, all he had said to me was "So your having a problem with you email?, correct?" several times and that we had a network issue in our area today which was being fixed. I did not believe that as I can access the internet with no issues and so can everyone else on AOL in my family and around the areas. Everyone can also access their email ok. I then asked to be put throguh to his supervisor whcih after 10 minutes of arguing, he did. I spoke to the supervisor who kept repeating things and stating that I needed to phone Microsoft and that they would fix the problem. I kept trying to tell him that Microsoft had nothing to do with the issue and that Microsoft was not at fault anywhere. The error is something to do with Mozilla Thunderbird and the AOL E-Mail service. Before phoning the CS helpline, I did some research about the errors and couldn;t find a lot but sort of figured out that it seems like a message in my inbox must be flagging up this error in thunderbird and that the numbers in the first message are a reference to whcih message it is. I ahve no idea how I relate the numbers to the emails I see in my inbox whcih is why I contacted the AOL CS to read them the error and to see if they could help me figure out which email message is either corrupted or damaged so it can be discarded. The supervisor kept on telling me that the message was nothing to do with them and that I had to contact Microsoft. I said that it is to do with them as the messages are stored on their imap server and it is AOL providing the email service to me and not Microsoft. He then replied saying that "imap" was not their server? It has to be AOL's server!!! When asked whcih server was theirs he just told me that it was "AOL Server" It was just getting ridiculous. He obvisouly had no idea what he was on about and just would not let me speak to him. He eventually put the phone down on me.

All I wnat is for someone to help me figure out what is causing the error and to help get it resolved and as the email service is provided to me by AOL that is why I contacted them.

All help is highly appreciated.

Thanks

Regards,
Neil

Yep, Tried deleting my account and readding, treied delating account, uninstalling , reinstalling and readding and every combination inbetween!

Have you tried setting up any other client to access your email? If other clients work then you'll know it's a problem with Thunderbird rather than AOL.

Yes I get no errors with other clients as all the other devices with clients that I use to check my mail only download the latest 50 messages. My home machine with thunderbird is set to download them all and I assume the message that is causing the problem is somewhere between the 50th message and the oldest one.

Have another client [or set one up] to download everything. It may give you a more illuminating error message than Thunderbird if a corrupt email is causing an issue.

What other Windows client would you reccommend?

I use Microsoft Outlook which comes with the Office package. I use it for several email accounts and as an organiser and i'd be lost without it.

If you don't have Office, you could use Outlook Express or Windows Mail, depending on which OS you are using.

Just installed Windows Live Mail and set it up to connect to my AOL email account. All my mail shows up. The error is not showing up but I think it might be because it has only downloaded headers and not the full message. How can I tell WLM to download the full message for all the emails?

I am just posting an update here to say that this issue has not yet been solved but would like to tell you guys about my latest experiences with AOL CS. I phoned up again for my latest attempt at getting help and after giving over personal details they tell me they need to trasnfer me to technical whcih they do and then they check all my details again so I explain the issue and they say they cannot help. I ask to be put throguh to a supervisor so they put me on hold and I wait, and wait and wait and wait some more! - for 25 bleeding minutes!!! Eventually I gave up as the supervisor was not answering. I immediatley rang back and give my details over, put through to technical, ask to speak to supervisor, eventually I get throguh to the stupid supervisor who I spoek to a few days previsous as I wrote in my original post and he could not remember us last speaking so I explain the situation and as soon as I mention I am using Mozilla Thunderbird to access my email, he point blank refuses to help and fobs me off. I decided to ask to speak to an AOL developer and he puts me through to another department where I speak to what seems the friendliest AOL CS agent ever. I re explained my problem and he immediatley understood the issue I was experiencing and even though I was using an unsupported product he was still willing to help. I gave him as much information about the problem as I could, including the link to this thread and I followed some suggestions he made and we looked into different possibilities. I then rang off to try another ised whcih has unfortunatley not worked so I have sent the advisor an email to continue trying to fix the problem. I would just like to say that there are some nice and helpful people at AOL who do want to assist their users and thankfully I did get throguh to one of them. As soon as I find a solution to this problem I will update this post.

The problem with customer support is they are manned by robots. Most do not have the first clue about the product they are supporting, other than what they learned in a 45 minute video. They have a script and they stick to it. You throw them a curveball and they fall to pieces. Supervisors are usually just as useless.

I always try and get put through to technical departments from the beginning. Even than can be hit and miss finding someone helpful. I wish more companies had departments for dealing with non-standard technical queries.
