e-mail storage

Have to reformat soon so am in the process of backing up all the nessessery bits, but have a load of mail messages to save, have googled for where they are stored but they are in .dbx format and I can't read that format, where do i go from here as will take forever to do singlarly?

Thanks for the replys using Express for mail, but what I don't understand is why can't you read them from the .dbx format somewhere, as it is all Microsoft.
