e2140 @3ghz e6750 of unknown ability.

Been offered a e6750 from a mate for £100.Its brand new and i have no idea of the stepping.He could'nt get it to post on his mobo due to no 1333fsb support.Will this work ok on a DS3 965P and be much of a improvement on a e2140 at 3GHZ?

Obviously i will [in the tradition of this forum] hammer this cpu to within a inch of its life, but is it worth shelling out extra for it?

Nope but it will give u something to fiddle with lol! :p

I'm sure the E6750 will overclock better, run cooler and it also has 4x the cache but In the real-world I'm not sure if you will notice
 
The 6750 will hit 3Ghz no problem, make sure you got BIOS F12 on the DS3 and you'll likely only boot at 1066fsb if its a v1.0, you gotta manually set it up.
 
You probably won't notice the difference tbh.

EDIT: And yes it will work with that mobo and bios. Those mobo's get sold nowadays advertising their computability with E6*50's.
