Quick Q

Intel Core 2 Duo E2140 "LGA775 Conroe" 1.60GHz (800FSB)
or
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4000+ 2.10GHz (Socket AM2)

Won't be overclocked - reliability is more important

Which is 'better' for a PC doing (MS) office work?

TIA

amd makes for a stupidly cheap and perfectly stable platform. intel makes for a more expensive (£50 or so i guess) but thoroughly good value for money if you are overclocking, in which case the likes of the e2160 cant be touched.

at stock, its really just a case of which is cheapest:)

Tom's CPU charts show the X2 4000 ahead in more of the bench marks, especially games (where the 2140's lesser cache is hurting it I guess).
There's not a huge amount in it though & the 2140 wins some tests.
