e2140 pin mod not working?

Hi, this is my first post!

So, I have a slight issue. I'm using the ASRock ConRoe 1333-DVI/H and Intel E2140 1.6ghz together.

Not the perfect overclocking mobo really but its what I have to work with. To get any decent kind of overclock on the E2140 with this mobo, you apparently need to do the pin mod as seen here:
http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=getarticle&number=6&artpage=2763&articID=604

Which I have done to the processor supposedly making it think its clocked at 2.1ghz stock.

My problem is, I've done the pin mod and nothing happened. It still thinks it's a 1.6ghz chip at defualt FSB speed. What could I have done wrong? The right pins are connected and I did it very clean, just those two pins are connected.

Its a total mystery as to why it isn't working.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Mark

Hi and welcome :)

Can you not manually set the FSB to 266mhz without the need for the pin-mod?

I know the ASRocks aren't the best for overclocking, but you should still be able to get the FSB to over 300mhz.

The highest I can take the FSB is about 250. For some reason I can't overlock any higher. Looking into it, for some reason, this mobo doesn't like being overclocked without an increased PCIe bus speed increase (which I also read is baaad) yet, to do any kind of overclock at all, it seem to be required or the system simply doesn't boot.

e.g.

FSB 200mhz + PCIe bus 100mhz

FSB 220mhz + PCIe bus 112mhz

FSB 250mhz + PCIe bus 115mhz

works.

FSB 200mhz + PCIe bus 100mhz

FSB 220mhz + PCIe bus 100mhz

FSB 250mhz + PCIe bus 100mhz

Does not work...

Is there any other info I could give that might be causing any issues? RAM timings seem set fine and everything, I can't see any issues, everyone else says leave the PCIe bus speed at 100 but as I said, overclocking simply isn't possible if I do that...

Oh, I'd like to add that I had the same issue before doing the pin mod (thats why I did it, trying to get a higher clock speed without upping the FSB at all) it seems really odd that it didn't do anything because everyone else thats tried it seem to have had success.

What did you use to make the mod?

And is your chip an L2 or M0 revision? It may have changed for the newer M0 revision.

M0 and it could have? EEEK! I hope I can get off the current conductive paint if so! Which happens to be:
/edit/ oh, no other stores alowed to be mentioned?

well its Electrically Conductive Silver Paint

From m*plin...

It probably hasn't changed, but it's one possible explaination for why the mod hasn't worked for you.

Have you set your memory to a low divider/ratio so that it isn't being overclocked as you raise your FSB?

"Have you set your memory to a low divider/ratio so that it isn't being overclocked as you raise your FSB?"

I'm sorry, this is all a learning curve for me, could you just explain that please?

'DRAM Frequency' is the memory speed setting. Ensure it's on the lowest setting before starting to overclock your CPU.

Which memory do you have?

I just reduced the DRAM Frequency to 250mhz and tried to push the FSB higher than 250mhz but it still doesn't seem to be helping?

I did it! WAHOO!

My first overclock too. Its so amazingly satisfying!

I decided the pin mod should be working so I scratched off all the conductive paint, and used some tin foil rather than the conductive paint (well, used some for glue) and it worked perfectly first time. Defualt FSB speed is clocked at 266mhz and now I'm currently running at 300mhz FSB, probably going to try for 350mhz

Thanks for your effort btw :)
