Hello, my E2140 is running at 2.8 gig. Is it worth getting an E6300 as they clock just as well, a mate bought a quad core and offered me the 6300 for £30.

Is it worth it just to get the extra 1 meg level 2 cache, or should I stick with what I have?

Thanks.

£30 for a e6300 seems a bit of a bargain to me, but to be honest the gains you will see aren't *that* great, but it will give you a bit more cache, though performance wise it shouldn't affect it that much.

However you should be able to sell the e2140 for £20 on the forums and such like, so the upgrade could be pretty cheap :)

Well it's a bargain for £30 but I doubt you will notice any difference from your E2140, still it may be something to play with for a couple of days.

Options to consider.

Buy the E6300 of ya mate and sell it elsewhere for more

Sell the E2140 for £30 and bag the E6300 with its extra 1Mb cache for £0.00

Remember tho that the 6300 only has a 7x multi so to get it to 3Ghz+ you are going have to be running over 400FSB so you need a board that will do this and memory that will also run at 800Mhz+ unless your board has the ability to run the mem and cpu inependantly, my P5N-E for exapmle
