ive just been reading that the e2140 is a sensational clocker and as im on water cooling im quite interested. my main need for cpu power is encoding and for supreme commander as its a real hog on the cpu.

now i have to say im an ardent AMD fan but i am not going to buy an AMD again untill AM3 as i really do think AM2 is as useful as a chocolate fire guard for those of us on high end 939 platforms, so this may be a good short term stop gap solution for me to accompany my purchase of an 8800GT in january.

my questions are will i see a good enough performance increase to warrant the outlay and annoyance of setting it all up do you think?

and do i need to by a new CPU block? (i currently have the nexxos XP block)

currently im running an opteron 170 @ 2.9Ghz and 2 gig of Corsair XMS pc 3200

if i changed i would be running an e2140 on OcUK 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Dual Channel Kit

and Gigabyte GA-P31-DS3L Intel P31 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

if i did i recon i can get £30 for my board, £40 for my ram and possibly £50 for the CPU given its a good clocker and rare now. So my total outlay would only be about £30 + some messing about installing.

well i wasnt really thinking of doing it for future upgrades as i believe socket 775 doesnt have all that much long left in it, i was more thinking about a stop gap untill AM3, but will it perform better is the question, as if not then i will just sit on what i have for a few more months.
