So unfortunately the gap on my DS3R goes from 1.6v to 1.8v vcore, but i want to see if my chip will do more than 3.2GHz. Will it fry my chip if i run 1.8v through it? or is it fine provided the temp stays below 73ºC?

You'll probably fry it.

If an E2160 won't do 3.2ghz at 1.6v then it's prettysafe to say that it's hit its limit.

Have you drop the multiplier to see if it's hit an FSB wall?

yea tried different multis, may just have to accept it's not a golden chip :( Should i drop the OC a little so i can reduce the volts or is 1.575v ok with temps below 70ºC? It's currently 8hrs orthos stable (havent tried longer cos i like to use it when i'm not sleeping ;))

Ya tried it at 1.8v, doesnt even post, just reduces OC and have to enter BIOS to revert  Have reduced my OC to 3.1GHz and now testing with Orthos for stability under 1.5v.

Wow, I didn't know these chips were even capable of taking 1.6v. I've been running mine at 1.45v and wondering why I can't get the clock speed higher than 2.34GHz. It's still probably my crappy motherboard, but I guess I could try shoving the voltage up that high.

if your only reaching 2.3GHz at 1.45v i wouldnt think it was the processor or voltage that is holding u back. What RAM and divider are u using?

RAM is PC2-5300 667 MHz. The multiplier is 3.33 * {FSB speed}. It's currently running at 865 MHz.

Unfortunately, my board doesn't support higher levels or RAM. It's not in the specification anyway.

Edit: actually it looks like my CPU might be stable at 2.34GHz at stock voltage of 1.3250v, with +0.1v on overvoltage control for DIMM, PCI bus and FSB. It's done half an hour of small FFTs in Prime95 anyway.

funny aint it...... i think my 2180 stinks because i can only get 3ghz out of it and it requires 1.425v to get there. yet that's still a 50% overclock on a £46 cpu with the stock cooler and i'm grumbling about it. :D

(i can't increase the voltage past 1.45v as temps get too high)

it's just when others are getting 3.2 @ 1.35v, it makes me jealous.:p:D
