Hi
I currently have an intel E2160 in my rig,I need to build my son a pc so was thinking of maybe putting this in his rig and upgrading myself-so what upgrade would you suggest?
cheers

For about 100 quid you could get an E8400. That would be a significant upgrade. They may be cheaper soon as im not really sure whats happening with the price drops. May i ask why you haven't oc'ed your 2160?

what mb are you using

i would suggest q6600 for futureproofing as you could get e8xxx series performance on your current chip with some tinkering

All depends how you use your pc, or how your son will use his.
Might be better to keep your E2160 and buy him a new chip if he is likely to use it more.

E2180 £45 (my personal favourite)

Excellent chip, you dont have to spend £100. Will OC @ 2.5 easily and most likely 3ghz with a small volt bump.

Q6600 £117

Ideal if you do a lot of heavy encoding/video stuff

E8500 £127

Ideal if your into gaming, but obviously will handle anything else you throw at it.

What MB though, have to make sure its compatible with anything that gets spec'd for you.

Why suggest the E2xxx series at all, for a similar price one can probably get the E6320, which I've happily run at 3.2GHz until a few weeks ago (upgraded to E8500).
