Hi All,

I am a real 'newbie' at this so please be patient width me :D

I bought E2180 + GA-P35-DS3P combo and installed up and running really well. The only problem is I cant seem to over clock this more than 200mhz. It just freezes and reboots if I do it through Easy Tune, or if i do it in bios it just restarts 3 times and resets its self.

I have two Corsair 1GB DDR2 XMS2-6400 and 2 512 sticks from "A REALLLY EXPENSIVE LARGE CO-OP", i think PNY. Both are same specs and speed and both are running duel channel.

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help.

Can you see anything wrong with the above, or do you know where I may be going wrong?

Thanks in advance!

*edit thanks for the heads up...*

Take the PNY memory out and try again with just the Corsair memory installed, I am guessing the PNY memory does not overclock well.

If you have better results with it out then once you have finished overclocking you will have to lower the ram divider if you want to use all that ram at once.

Edit: On second thoughts it may be easier to just leave the memory in the machine and drop the ram divider down one or two notches first, either way I am 99% positive your bad overclocking results are to do with your memory speed being to high for that PNY memory to handle.

You were right, i have taken out the PNY and i managed to go to 2.4ghz... Does that mean the PNY memory is useless compared to the corsair?

Its not as good but its far from useless, you should still be able to use it as well as the Corsair. What you need to do is drop the memory divider down from 1:2 to 1:1, this allows you to overclock the cpu higher with out the ram getting so high. Your ram is rated for 400mhz but the screenshot above is showing 440mhz, now your Corsair will probably run at those speeds but I don't think the PNY stuff is good for much more than stock.

Hope this helps mate :)

Edit just saw your reply...

Thanks for your help.

In bios, all voltages are on auto - should i change this? If so what should they be?

And where do i change the memory divider?

I am not too sure about that board as I haven't used it myself, best to let someone else answer that question for you.

Most 2180's don't need much voltage raise to get 3GHz, have you dropped the memory divider yet?

shall i put the other memory back in before dropping the divider? Also where exactly do i change this divider, in bios?

I am not sure of where in the bios it is exactly, but it should be in the main overclocking section or the memory section. When you find the right menu the options for it should be something like 1:1 / 1:2 / 2:3 / 3:4, you want to select a low one like 1:1 or 3:4.

I've got a funny feeling that I've read that the GA-P35-DS3P doesn't like overclocking with 4 memory modules in.

I've got one of these boards with a e6600 & 2 Gb of ballistix in and so far I've taken it to 3GHz on stock volts. The ram divider is accessed by setting the system memory multiplier (SPD) to manual.

If you press Ctrl + F1 at the main BIOS screen it gives you loads more stuff in the MIT menu

Cool cheers for that.

Just lost faith a bit there, booted in to windows, blue screened. Did that twice. Put back to nstandard, boot ini error. Rebooted and finally back in to windows.

My work PC so better not mess around to much as i need it first thing!

Will have to have a play on saturday.
