As they're a similar price. In stock form and when clocked to say 3GHz which would be the better overall option?

does the extra cache on the 4400 make it worth while?

Opinions please :)

I would say that it depends on when you will be upgrading next. The extra cache will make more of a difference in the next couple of years.

Cache will make no more difference a couple of years from now than it does now (ie 5-10% clock per clock depending on how cache intensive the program is). If you're overclocking I see no reason to go for a E4xxx chip as the E2xxx overclock just as well if not better.

To be honest I went for an E4500 and now regret it-could have saved £30 and gone for a 2180. Ah well, live and learn!

Not at all.

Melbourne done a good thread about clocking a e2160 & E6600 to 3Ghz and comparing benchmarks and the extra cache makes like to no difference at all, save your money
