Hi
I'm running an e2180 @ 3ghz, but noticed the quad core 9450 going for a nice price today.
Would it be worth upgrading? Would i notice much improvement? I heard not everything is really utilizing all the cores yet.
I have 4gb of RAM and a 8800GT and mostly use it for internet and games.

I might add that even though the price is good, it is still a stretch for me, so if the difference isn't amazing I can't really justify the expense :)

Cheers

Difference would be noticeable, but getting a decent aftermarket cooler and overclocking your current CPU then gathering your cash for a larger system overhaul might be a better choice. GPU upgrade might be more noticeablte for you too.
The Q9450 is a solid chip, though putting that much into 775 again seems a tad unwise atm.

I already have a good aftermarket cooler, the CPU is overclocked already to 3ghz, from 1.8.
Yeah the GPU upgrade is coming as soon as the next gen GPUs arrive :)
I just don't know if this current CPU will be bottlenecking the new cards for the newest games.
A complete system overhaul is too expensive for me unfortunately. :(

Are the q6450s as overclockable as the dual core cpus?

Hi , yes huge difference all round. If you have a good cooler then you should achieve 3.6ghz from a Q9450. Probably more but do not want to over compensate the potential clock.

Enjoy

You will be able to break 3GHz no issues, depends on the rest of your system as to how far it will go. But as you have a solid OC already I would expect 3.5GHz without too much effort.

The 2180 is quite old now right ?
If you can afford the 9450 it will boost your performance and system life, but if your not having issues in games yet I would still advise waiting and getting an i5 based system when you can afford it.
