my friend has a problem with a build that he made recently it doesn't seem to want to overclock when he tries to overclock the cpu upon leaving the bios and saving it powers down then powers up about 3 times.

then all the settings are back to defaults in the bios :(

any ideas? the specs are below.

Gigabyte GA G33M-S2
E2180 core 2 duo
Geil 2 gig 800mhz
ati hd 2600xt

That's almost the same spec as my pc, which I've just upgraded to. Mine's running at 3.2ghz at the moment.

I'm a noob so feel free to take my *suggestions* with a pinch of salt :) But my 'experience' is this:

1) Set RAM overvolt to +0.3 ... the Gigabyte default is 1.8, but the Geil is specc'ed for 2.1v

2) Increase the vcore a couple of notches up the scale

3) Don't be too ambitious with the first attempt - aim for 3ghz first. (In fact try oc'ing by 1mhz first to see if there isn't some weird setting in BIOS / weird problem with the components)

Good luck :)

ah thanks guys ill be sure to get my mate to have a look at this and that link does seem very interesting :)
