E2200 out !!

Was having a chat with my friend the other day about the powr of Core2 processors. He's running a P4 2.6 533 bus northwood (not sure if it has HT actually) and I have a T7400 2.16Ghz. We both like our HD movies so we use the CoreAVC codec get the most from our machines. His P4 can do 720p with 45-60% CPU usage, 1080p uses 100% and lags like crazy. My Core2 clocks down to 1Ghz when idle, yet still handles 1080p with 20-35% CPU usage @ 1Ghz.

Just goes to show how far superior the Core2 chips are against a much higher clock P4.

So this chip is 200x11 by default then? Anyone know the stock voltage as the varying e2xx0 chips seem to vary a bit.

Anybody got one of these yet? From what i can see OCUK is the only online retailer stocking these so far. I am looking at getting one of these for my sons pc. It was built down to a budget of £200 last March but with a view for future upgrading. With that in mind i used a Asrock 775 Dual-Sata and a 3ghz P4 clocked to 3.6Ghz under a Freezer 7 Pro. With the limitations of that motherboard this should see a decent overclock to around 3.2-3.3Ghz. Don't need to change the ram as he already has 2GB of PC2-5400. The graphics card will be upgraded at the same time to a 3850pro from a 6800XT so he should see a really good boost for less than £160. :D:D

There's too many C2D's at the lower end in my opinion, 4 e2x00's ranging from 1.6Ghz to 2.2Ghz at £45 to £60 respectively. It would be nice to see intel get rid of 1 or 2 and moving the e4500 & e4600 (2.4Ghz/2Mb Cache) in this price range.

There's going to be even more lower end chips coming, including the dual core Celeron E1200-E1600 which is E2000 series with 512kb L2, it's seriously crippled but still managed superpi 1Mb in 19 seconds at 3.6Ghz, in comparison my E4300 does 18 secs at 3.1Ghz. Not sure if they will ever bring these out in the UK.

'Officially' the E4300 and E4400 are discontinued, much like the E6600.

Steve, I've never heard of a hardware product like a Celeron not being released in the UK for any reason. Why would it not? I thought they were introducing those chips to replace the Celeron 400 range.

Wish they'd just simply the bottom range to this:

1Mb Cache
1.8Ghz e2160
2.0Ghz e2180
2Mb Cache
2.2Ghz e4500
2.4Ghz e4600

Then onto the full conroes......

You are probably right, it's just that the price difference between the dual core celeron and the E2000 is so small, I suppose OEM market will love it.

Have a look in the papers, the adverts from Purple Shirt and Co all featre low end systems/CPUs for around the 299 - 599 mark.

this is also as fast as the e4500 priced at £82 , just with some cache left out, and i dont think that bothers many people... now if it werent for that £8 delivery... and they've got it in before ****** has .. top marks..

I'd get rid of the competitor if I were you ;)
