heres the summary

Right when I was getting over the shock of NFS and Forza actually being comparable, I received another kick jolt once I realized I was actually more excited for SHIFT, which quite simply looks way better in terms of next-gen presentation. Visually speaking, SHIFT actually looks prettier, all the while offering significantly enhanced gameplay from its last title (Thank God). Sure, its scope is significantly smaller, and you know it won’t have a fraction of the community and DLC support as Forza, but all the upgrades feel infinitely more substantial.

If I had to pick a winner - and I do - I’d go with SHIFT. It looks a little more fresh and exciting, while Forza looks like hours more of the beautiful same (but what a value!) Fortunately for me, by the time I finish SHIFT, EA will doubtlessly be hyping its next NFS title AND I won’t head into Forza 3 unprepared!

Never did I ever conceive of a day when an annual Need for Speed game would rival my interest in a new Forza… but here we are. Feel free to call me an ******* in the comments.

Shift does indeed look good..

The graphics are technically pretty sub-par (very low poly models in places, pre-baked everything), but the 'presentation' of them is very very good..

I'm sure the 'driving' experience is quite good with all the 'effects', but it's a very different game to FM and GT, and it's daft to sort of compare them...

I'll be getting it anyway... and then FM, and then GT..

I guess those comments will wind some people up, but then you need to watch the vids of NFS:S and see that it's got a lot going for it (potentially), a sort of mini GT5 Vs Midnight Club LA or something..

Yeah i'll be getting this.

I hope that the racing isn't like in the vid though, i prefer a good race instead of flying past them like they're stood still.

I like the direction they're taking though. From the vids i've seen it looks pretty intense.

The really bizarre thing with this game, apparantly the physics engine is supposed to be 'the best', and surpasses GTR2 on the PC, they say a 'wheel is required when in full sim mode'..

It sure is an odd mix.. a kind of Race Pro meets PGR.. should be interesting..

The only down side is the relative lack of cars and tracks, it should be just enough for some fun, but there doesn't seem much to keep you 'hooked'..

I've been playing GRID and it has one thing that i find Forza and GT both lacking. The sense of being in a race event.

It may not have the best physics in the world, but its such a sense of occasion when doing a race. Crowd noises, opponents tyre screeches, it all adds to the atmosphere and it seems SHIFT is taking note.

It's all down to the handling imo, at the end of the day i couldn't care less about the number of cars it has (within reason, i want at least 20) as long as the gameplay is good.

So yeah, if it is as realistic as they claim, i'm looking forward to it. I'm less excited about it than i am about Forza as Forza has already proven itself to be a great racer.

Good to have something different come along...
I agree its less likely this will maintain the longterm community support but im hoping for an addictive fast paced high adrenaline racer from this. The aspect of creating the sensation of a driver in a car is something new.

Theyve stated they will have good sim physics in previous articles online and the devs of this have a good enough past experience so im quite optimistic.

Im interested in seeing how this multiplatform game will let people compare best laptimes against the PC and PS3 versions possibly using G25 or other sim wheel pedals. It might be one game that defines if or not such wheel products/pedals make any difference over the X360 Official wheel or indeed pad times. Perhaps usefull information for FM3 fans considering the Fanatec Turbo S wheel, will it allow more precision or make you any faster?

Game should look stunning in triplehead on PC with high end PC systems reaching 60FPS or maybe more?

Console versions from screenshots definately seem to however have less poly cars than what FM3 or GT5P seem to offer and of course on the consoles this game is limited to 30FPS.

If shift has AI which is better than the usual bungee NSF AI, then it will probably be a lot more fun than FM3
