e39 stereo, does it get louder the faster I go?

Howdy,

I have noticed that "I think" the stereo in my e39 gets louder the faster I go. Are these setup to monitor cabin noise and auto adjust?

Or am I hearing things.... (no pun)

The E46 stereo in my car does and I imagine the one in your car is the same or simillar so yes it does! There is a secret menu you can enter to change how sensitive it is to your speed or turn the function off completely.

My mum's Mazda does this. Gets on my nerves.

A lot of cars do this! I can't stand it! It automatically increases the volume as the speed increases to combat road noise.

You should be able to switch it off in the menu.

Not on the bmw. You need to access a technician style menu. Search on a bmw forum and you'll find out how to.
