I hear this chip is listed in some shops now but I thought retail release wasnt for another two months. So is it premature or is it due much sooner then that now?

Any ideas of pricing yet?

The speed will be 9x200 apparently

In my Core 2 Duo review I talked about an E4200, but it looks like Intel has scrapped the E4200 and replaced it with the E4300. The E4200 was supposed to be a 1.6GHz Core 2 Duo with a 2MB L2 cache but only an 800MHz FSB. The E4300 is a 1.8GHz part, also equipped with a 2MB L2 cache and the same 800MHz FSB. The now canceled (or delayed) E4200 and the new E4300 both lack VT support, which will surely become more than a meaningless feature without software support. I've updated my Conroe article to reflect the updated information, but this change in Intel's roadmap is important for one reason, and one reason alone: when was the last time Intel made a last minute change to a roadmap that gave us a faster CPU? The last case I can remember was the ill-fated Pentium III 1.13GHz.

I thought that I'd heard that the E4x00 cores were really the Allendales, and the E6300 is in reality a Conroe with 2Mb cache disabled after binning. The varying descriptions on this seem to be confusing at the very least.

Haven't read the posted links, but as far as I'm aware the 1.8GHz E4300 won't see the light of day; it'll be replaced with a 2GHz E4400.

10x200? Also a higher price, hrmm These processors must be intended for boards like 945gz which can barely make 266mhz

I think I read a few days back that both the e4300 and e4400 will be released around January 27th 2007. Of course this was on a site that was predicting the release dates, so dont take this as gospel.

The i945PL chipset runs at 266MHz-FSB and with a little tweaking can reach 290-300MHz-FSB :D

Considering mobos based on this chipset can be bought for £50 quid-ish it would be a good combo with one of the newer 'budget' chips from INTEL coming soon, I wonder how much thse new chips will be?

Of course if you slap one into a proven clocking chipset like the Intel P965 Express or one of the new nVidia chipsets you could have a lot of fun with a 10x multi!
