Hi guys, just wondering what your opinions are on the above two cpu's?

Which is better at clocking? Or just generally better?

Merely asking as I have never owned an Intel system in the past few years, only had AMD's...I don't clock much, but I probably will with one of the above...However currently I have an X2 4400 at stock.

Thank you in advance.

Neither. The E5200 is the better buy. Same amount of cache as the E4300 (despite what the OCUK description says), Higher clockspeed, lower voltage, cooler running, more energy efficient and better clocking. E2*** and E4*** series should'nt even be considered now.

Indeed, if I was buying for myself then yeah I would do that :) Someone is asking me, as they have a choice out of the two.

Thanks for the input though.

Depends on the price and what they are doing really. As pasty said the E5200 is the clear choice as it is the new E2xxx and has the same cache. If someone is going to give it to them then I would take the E4300 for the added cache but if it is a purchase then take the cheapest one which will probably be the E2160.

EDIT: If this will be run at stock and they are purchasing and the price is similar then take the E4300 as the cache will help at stock speeds. These chips are so popular because you can make up on the lack of cache with a good overclock but at stock the extra cache will help some.

Ah awesome, I'll have to see what it's going to be used for an such, and go from there.

Thanks everyone.

When I bought my CPU, the e2180 was the obvious choice and I'm very happy with it. Especially as it cost just over £50. To compare, I think the e6600 was still on sale for about £155 at the same time. If I was buying now it would probably be the e5200. I definatley wouldn't be buying an e2180 unless it was £20

Me, I'd look to get a second hand Q6600 on the MM, which is exactly what I did!

Quad core is the way to go.
