Hello,

Looking at the E4300 and the ABIT IP-95 (both on OcUK), on a budget, would this be better performance wise than an AMD x2 processor, and can I use my old DDR2 533Mhx memory with it!

Will be Overclocking the E4300 btw.

Thanks

Hi there,

Im pretty sure yes and yes will be the answers to those two questions.

Definitely go for the E4300 over AM2 as the performance increase will be much larger, but as for the ram, i think it will work, but im sure someone else will back me up with that one.

I agree with everyone else.
E4300 is the way to go, i heard people getting around 2.7Ghz on stock volts :O
So it cant be that hard.
AMD X2 is on its way out isnt it?

The E4300's are really good. I got mine to 2.7ghz with stock volts, im at 1.55v for 3.2ghz and thats with the stock cooler :D

hmm but AM2 X2 3800+ can be had for £35 VAT included it's really tempting if you have very limited budget.
Its always a trade off, if its on a budget then the AMD's are great value if you can get a decent mobo cheap as well.
Ive got a 7800gtx sitting here doing nothing as well as a 3700SD so i might just get a cheap mobo and upgrade my lads Barton/9800pro set up.

I just bought a E4300 and I'm very happy with it. Currently at 2.4ghz but it did go up to 2.7 at stock volts! I got it up to 3ghz first try with 1.45v vcore but was getting temps around 60 at load, so pulled it back down for now.. my graphics card is bottlenecking everything so no point in clocking it more at the moment :)

The fact you've got DDR2 memory already implies to me that you have a relatively modern system as it is. Which basically means that you should definitely go for the E4300, as the X2 would likely be only a modest upgrade.

There's a place for buying AM2 setups, especially when looking at brand new budget systems/upgrades, but certainly not for anyone who currently has a p4-3ghz or better setup.
