My E4400 reaches 2.7GHz on stock volts, as the Asrock 4core dualVSTA has no Vcore adjustment in BIOS. At this on full load running Orthos on a warm day like today it only gets to 40C - Zalman CNPS9500AT cooler.

Is this a pretty poor OC on stock for this type of CPU? I was hoping for more :(

Likely your Asrock holding you back, they're not known for high FSB clocks, and i think 300FSB is about all its got in it. Got an Asrock conroe xfire as a RAID backup server and 300 is the limit as well, no matter how much more the chip ocs in another board at stock volts.

I'm only at 270 atm and I would think the board will go a bit further.

Ah sorry, thought you had an E4300 with a 9x multi. If you push past 270 what happens? If its a no boot at all i'd say it was board related, if just not stable i'd say either CPU or RAM starting to hit a wall at current voltage/timing.

Boots easily at 2.75GHz 275; runs super-PI 1M but fails orthos (blend) after about 2mins as the RAM is running at 170 - Patriot XBL 2x512 so I think must be lack of Vcore volts ;)

T - must go DR WHO!!!!!!

Sounds like CPU to me and quite honestly the latest batches of CPU's havn't exactly been the best of clockers, most needing at least a small voltage bump to get to 3.0GHz.

I have that motherboard, and I'm up to 290Mhz FSB, i've not tried going higher yet as I don't have the time to fiddle around...i've read on another forum though that with a pencil mod someone got the board up to 338Mhz
