Hello

I am going to get a hardtop for my 330 convertible. Before I go and find one I believe I need a fitting kit. Does anybody know if this is correct and what the part number might be for this?

Is this a BMW only part?

Thanks for any help.

The E46 Hard Top will fit any E46 Convertible , no kit required , there are two pins on the Hard Top that drop into the guide holes at the rear (yours might be hidden by the detachable covers and there are handles in the rear quarters which grip it into place. For the front , if you look behind your front sun visors there are two clips which hold the hardtop in place at the front, it all sounds complicated but it s really a very simple attachement process , as you ll find out when you get your hardtop :)

Don’t find a hard top. Nasty things.

The joys of open top motoring are year round – if you only drop the roof when its sunny you are missing the point. Unless it’s raining or you are on the Motorway, that roof should always be down irrespective of outside temperature. A top down drive in the crisp winter morning air is as fun and enjoyable as one at the height of summer. The hard top sucks, it costs a load of money, makes the car look silly and robs you of those impulsive top down moments you can’t experience without taking a stupid hard top off.

The roof of a convertible is an umbrella, it’s there to stop you getting wet. If there is no rain, it is not required and should be lowered :p

Save your money. Enjoy your convertible all year round.

Have to agree with Fox.

Guy local to me has an e46 M3 convertible, I follow him home often.

I can count on one hand the number of times hes had the roof up, even when snowing last year I saw him with it down......

Strikes me, a lot of the time, convertible owners would have been better off with the tin top variant and a sunroof given how rarely they seem to drop the roof.

Kind of misses the point imo.

Don't get the hard top, every non rainy day I wish I could put the roof down on my coupe, enjoy the fact that you can and just put the heater on.

Lots of opinions saying not to get one :)

Well, fair enough. I'm not going to be able to get one straight away anyway so I'll see how it goes through the start of winter.

Love having the roof down on my boxster regardless of weather, theres something special about a crisp frosty morning with the heaters on and the top down. I tend only to have the roof up during the winter when Im on fast roards or its raining.
