e46 Bluetooth OEM?

Howdy.

Picked up a 330 touring today, came with a telephone booklet and pairing code in the docs.

Has a little stubby antenna on the roof, and a microphone near the sunroof controls. No Phone button in the centre arm rest tho...

Also has a antenna connection box thing in the boot.

Spec sheet says "Prepped for phone", so am I missing some modules?

Would be nice to use the car system, and not bolt in an after market contraption.

Anyone know about these things?

Sounds like it has Bluetooth but with an old UIM that doesn't work with modern phones.

Could be, it is a '05. I have seen a connector in the armrest under the coin holder. I was expecting a button somewhere to do the pairing - seeing as the manual and code leaflet point towards a pairing operation. Also no silver box in the boot.

If it has a coin holder and cup holder in the centre then it could be that a previous owner swapped out the phone cradle with Bluetooth button so you'd just need to source a spare for the purpose of pairing.

It's certainly a possibility, yes. Just take your cup holders or centre tray out and see if the connector is there before buying a cradle.

Ok.

Found a BMW bulletin that apparently says to disregard the user manual and bluetooth code as my car build date has a non bluetooth unit.

I do have a BT device in the car somewhere, but it does not have a name just a MAC address. Can't connect to it either. Maybe it does have BT just no software to run it. I did read about that somewhere.

If it doesn't end up having Bluetooth, get hold of a parrot ck3000 evo. It integrates almost seamlessly with the car, providing you 90% of the same experience as the oem unit.

Tried the paper clip trick between pins 1 and 17. Paired and can get my contacts on the car. So far it looks like it is working :-)
