E46 design flaw

Just been reading over on the BM forums, the common occurance of the rear subframe cracking eventually sheering off.

Something to be worried about? Any preventive measures I can do? I have seen you can buy a reinforcement plate, do you think I should take this route?

I maybe jumping the gun here, but got me quite worried

Only affects older E46's. New ones like yours and mine have a re-designed subframe.

Safe.

And anyway, BMW would fix it if you did have a problem.

Cool thank you, I have heard contradictory cases of BM washing thier hands of it and costing poor sods 2k to rectify.

If the person doesn't use BMW for servicing (which let's not forget includes bodywork/suspension/drivetrain inspection/checks) - then yes, they might be screwed.

Keep up the BMWSH and you've got leverage with them.
