E46 headunit - changing tape to cd one

Hi guys,

Just wondering if this should be a straight swap out, and is the HU on the E46 easy to remove??

Currently - BMW HU with tape slot, and connected to cd changer in boot.

I would like to change it for an HU with a cd slot, but still have that connected to the cd changer in the boot.

There are two types of HU connection on the e46, a 17pin connector and a 40pin one. You have to find out which one you have and get one to match, although I think there are adaptors available. It's likely you have the 17 pin one, but worth pulling it out to check.

HU is easy to get out, you need to pull the aluminium trim off on the passenger side above the glove box, then remove the trim around the HU. There are two screws either side which you need to take out, then just pull the unit out.

Also - there are MP3 cd players out there, so would be worth looking for one of those.
