Going to be looking for either soon, just needs points / views on either?
Coming from an E36 M3 so really keen on the M3, but the R34 is really taking my eye.
Budget £12k max.

Any thoughts or advice appreciated as I'm pretty stuck between the two!

You considered an Audi S4? Bit softer than the M3 and Skyline but a 4.2 V8 with 344bhp can only be fun :)

Did think about an Audi, but I'd want the RS4 as early cars are only a little more which would frustrate me, at least with the skyline the GTR is way more.
Thanks though and I do think the S4 is a great car.

Out of the box, the BMW is such a good package.
You'll need to spend good money on the R34 (on top of the purchase price) to make the car well balanced.

And spending money on the BMW just meakes it better again (obviously!)

E46 M3 would be my choice even if I did love the R34 in Gran Turismo.... :D

The M3 is in a different league and is for someone with completely different tastes to the R34 and while both cars will have people thinking you're a ****, it will be for different reasons.

Plus it's a GT-T so you'll always get people telling you that you should've gotten a GT-R.

Personally I'd get a GT-R ;)

if thats the case, go mental and get a R33 gts/gtt spend the balance on making that faster and then you wont want a gtr

GT-T all the way ...!!

Bit bias tho me!

Everyone has a M3 there almost more popular than scoobies! Boring imo ;)

Im still on the search for a skyline too r33 gts or r34 gtt just waiting for the right one to come along! :D

I would go for a R33 GTR quite within your budget, the R34 in GT-T form just looks abit wrong.

GTS is available on R33 in various guises

R33 models:

* HR33 GTS - 2.0 L RB20E SOHC I6, 130 PS (96 kW, 172 N m)
* ER33 GTS25 - 2.5 L RB25DE DOHC I6, 190 PS (140 kW, 231 N m)
* ENR33 GTS-4 - 2.5 L RB25DE DOHC I6, 190 PS (140 kW, 231 N m) AWD
* ECR33 GTS25T - 2.5 L RB25DET DOHC turbo I6, 250 PS (184 kW, 294 N m)

R34 models

* GT - 2.0 L RB20DE NEO I6, 155 ps (114 kW)
* 25 GT, GT-X, GT-V - 2.5 L RB25DE NEO I6, 200 ps (147 kW)
* GT-FOUR - 2.5 L RB25DE NEO I6, 200 ps (147 kW) AWD
* GT-T - 2.5 L RB25DET NEO turbo I6, 280 hp (206 kW, 343 N m)

Thanks for all the replies, was speaking to a Jap/import specialist today, he says get an R33GTR instead of an R34GT-T interesting?

Good advice IMO. The GTR is also a better starting point if you plan to tune the car, plus Skylines got more and more bloated with each generation so a 33 makes for more fun in my book.

Id be all over a R32 GTR myself. But any of them with that 2.6 twin in will do. Go test drive some? :p

Agree with the above. I'm not a fan of the looks of the R33, but would go for an R32 or R34. Sounds like an R34 GTR may well be out of your price range though.

If you like the look of the R33, go for that :)

I popped the vRS in for a service yesterday and they had a GTR in ... with a blown engine.

The guy had just fitted a bleed valve to ONE of the turbos and upped the boost a silly amount. Apparently it was running around 400bhp like this!!

He said the engines aren't as bullet proof as everyone thinks (obviously not in the scenario above).

I still have to have one as my next car...
