Hi

I've wondered this for a while now.

Why do E46 M3's (and the CSL) only come in pre-facelift form only?

When the E46 M3 was launched it may have been during the pre-facelift period but you can buy M3's on 55 reg plates but they still have the pre-facelift front.

WHY!!!!????

Not entirely sure. It's something that's bugged me too.

The M3 still looks damn good in post face-lift form. The upswept headlamps probably wouldn't suit it tbh.

One of the semi official thoughts on this is because BMW would have had to redesign new front wings incorporating new grills. I dont know if youve ever looked inside one of the wings of an E46 M3, but they are a complex design of air ducts..........maybe they thought the re-design process was too much hassle..

From waht I understand it was the cost of redesign and tooling for production of the front end which given its a relativly low volume car didn't make economic sense.

pre face lift looks better anyway, its meaner nd suits the style of car more ;)
