Currently i have a system running an E5200 Dual Core Pentium sitting at 3.7GHz on an Asus P5QL-Pro Motherboard alongside 4GB of DDR2 and an ATi 5770.

However the chance has arisen to cheaply upgrade the CPU to a quad core so long as it is still an LGA775 chip.

Whatever i upgrade to i WILL be overclocking straight away, but i don't know if theres much point me upgrading at the moment, however if i do i'm unsure what chip to go for, been looking at a Q9400 but as i don't follow PC Hardware like i used to i really don't know what's good or bad anymore.

Some advice would be much appreciated on wether to upgrade and what CPU to go for if i do?

Thanks.

Well i just did pretty much the same thing you want to do, I went from an E5300 @ 3.6Ghz and now have a Q6600 @ 3.15Ghz. Pretty pleased with the upgrade.

Id be on the lookout for a G0 Q6600, they can be had for £70 - £80 and clock nicely, especially in your board which is a lot better at clocking tahn my 750i :)
