hi all, got my new build up and running and ive been thinking about clocking it. when i look in cpu-z the the chip freq flashes from 1.2ghz to 2.4 and the multiplier changes at the same interval between 6 and 12.5.

when i view system info windows vista tells me its running at 2.4.

is this normal? cheers

lol, cheers guys i never would have known that

just off to look for it in my asus p5q pro bios now, hope i dont get lost :)

hmmmm i lost the bios settings, disabled c1e support again but the mulitplier is still switching around in windows from 12.5 to 10 to 6 or something? i went back and checked and its defo disabled, is there anything else im missing?

cheers

Just checked my Bios,
I have the following disabled
C1ESUPPORT,
Max Cpuid,
Intel Virt Tech,
Cpu Tm function, and Execute Disable

if i enable c1e support on mine,i get the drop in multiplier not sure whats happened mate

thanks bro, i will check my bios later against what uve just said uve got disabled. hopefully its something thats still enabled? it is strange though because last time when you told me that was all i changed (c1e) then it stopped it.

so when you enable it you start getting the drop and when disabled it stops? v. strange! have you updated the bios on your board? probably not that anyway but i was thinking maybe i should

many thanks mate

yes mate as far i know you just need c1e support disabled,as i said when i enable it the speedstep lower multiplier kicks in
I just told you what was in my bios and what i had been advised to disable to overclock.
Strange that it worked before though

Just checked on web for you,the other ones were Speedstep and eist which must be disabled, they however are not listed in my bios though

ok thanks mate, well ive jus seen your other post about bios so i will try that tonight and start again from a clean slate and try to just disable the c1e support.

wish me luck lol, cheers mate

Good luck mate, get stuck just ask,i`ve just recently flashed my Bios and overclocked a q6600 on the same board.

cheers bud. whats flashing the bios mean? is that just an update? wicked, how long did it take you to get a good overclock on the q6600?

Yeah just means updating it,got the q6600 to 3.5ghz stable which i'm pleased with, tried to go higher but it would boot up windows and then blue screen

updated the bios and checked my settings they are the same as urs mate but its still doing it :(

whats speed step?

cheers!

my bad lol, just read through this post again!another thing though ive been advised to set my cpu/mem ratio to 1:1 but im not sure how you input that?
