Hi everyone
first time poster so please be gentle.
just thought id ask a newbie question
im thinking of a budget build to get me thro until the nehalem prices drop, in say in a year or so.
i was thinking of an E5200 or E7200 coupled with an ASUS P35 P5Kse motherboard with PCI e v1 (£61.09), or a P45 P5Q board at (£88.11) with PCIe v2.
I would like to purchase in a couple of months a 4870 as well.
My questions are - is it better to go for the PCI e 2.0 board to couple with the 4870 (a PCI e 2 card), or would the performance increase between the PCIe v1 and v2 be negligable.
Also, would the E5200 be a bottleneck in a system with a 4870 or would it be ok (i would like to overclock whichever CPU i purchase to hopefully 3ghz + with something like an arctic freezer pro cooler). I could even push to an E8200/ 8400. I am aware of the quad cores, and without wanting to start another long dual v quad debate, i have read that the Q6600 is being phased out, and i cannot find any information yet about the new 45 nm Q8200, but at £150ish it doesnt seem very good value compared to the Q6600.
So the dual core route to my mind is the better value at present
At present i run a 640 meg 8800gts and an athlon 64 x2 4600 - would i notice a big difference between the old and the new system in the likes of Crysis, clear sky etc.
Any input would be gratefully received
