Hi there

I've finally got round to installing my new E5200 and have started clocking it.

Currently testing 3.33 GHz @ 1.300 VCore in BIOS and have noticed that my idle/load temps are 52/66.

I've read somewhere about stuck sensors on these chips - could this be the issue as these temps seem way higher than my old E2180.
 
They don't sound that high. What heatsink have you got?

If it's stable, I'd just ignore the temperature and clock it some more.
 
Did you gradually bump it up to 1.3v to get it stable or did you just pump it straight to that voltage and try running at 3.33GHz?

I only ask, because if you did just go straight to 1.3v you could try to see if it's stable on a lower voltage - and hopefully reduce your idle temps.

You could test your stuck sensor theory by running at stock speed and voltage - if your temps don't drop it would point to a faulty sensor? (Do the temps fluctuate under load?)

That seems pretty high, my temps are 30/55, 3.6Ghz @ ~1.4 (maybe a bit less I can't remember I'm at work) with a Acrtic Freezer 7 pro.

Have you checked the HSF is working ok and seated properly?

Gradually bumped to 1.3v from VID of 1.2250

That seems pretty high, my temps are 30/55, 3.6Ghz @ ~1.4 (maybe a bit less I can't remember I'm at work) with a Acrtic Freezer 7 pro.

I'm using an Arctic Freezer 7 Pro also.

Have you checked the HSF is working ok and seated properly?

I've used the Arctic Freezer 7 Pro before with my E2180 and did check it was seated correctly. I may re-apply the MX2 and seat again when I get back home just to be sure.

The temps do fluctuate on idle/load but don't seem to drop below 50degrees.
 
Then, as p4radox has kind of already suggested, they're not ideal temps but certainly within tolerance. As long as your load temps aren't going through the roof you could just have a chip that idles quite warm.

Deff worth re-sitting your cooler, though.

Heh - well still running tests on it after reseating HSF and no difference on the idle/load temps so I guess this chips just running a lil hotter than my E2180 - just thought it would run cooler.

My chip seems to top out around 3.5 GHz, that's with 1.3875v (BIOS) / 1.360v (CPUZ idle) / 1.320v (CPUZ load) still need to finish testing this as have only managed an hour on Orthos so far. I may have to back the clock off slightly for stability.

On the subject of VCore, I usually check out the max TDP value of the CPU (ie 1.3625v for E5200) and then check that CPUZ idle doesn't exceed this value in windows. Is this the best way of doing this?

I had mine at 3.4Ghz with 1.35v under a Tuniq Tower and load temps were 58ºC

krooton, I think mine is looking like it's going to clock the same as yours, based on the tests I have for 3.4 GHz
 
mine used to run at 3.6ghz @ 1.325v all day long for 4 months before i sold it to upgrade to i7. Just havent got round to the later yet.
 
What kind of OC can I expect from:-

E5200 + Gigabyte GA-EP35 + OCZ Gold 8500 2x2GB + OCZ 500W ModXstream PSU + Arctic 7 on Windows 7 64 Bit.

Not gaming just want a efficient OC so that its still alive in 5 years.

3.2Ghz - 3.5GHz isn't an unreasonable target.

You just have to test it and see what the chip gives out.

You may have a great clocking chip - but even if you have, if you're after stabilty with a very credible clock, 3.5GHz would be the place I would stop.

Mine reaches 3.8GHz - but i've found that it has some small niggles at that speed even though it passes multiple stress tests - i've sinced dropped it to 3.5GHz and it's far happier. (i think the recent weather is a little to blame as it's problems have coincided with system temps rising.)

Each chip is different though - some ppl have had had trouble getting over 3.0GHz - but this isn't the norm for the E5200.

I thought 3.2 would be okay, but the i decided to see what i could get.

Mines comfortable @ 3.5 :) could probs push it to maybe 3.7 but would require more volts and tbh, 3.5 is enough for what i want :)
